Bang the End is Nigh

My holiday is starting to come to an end with Matthew getting picked up tomorrow for the long haul back to Jozi. I just hope that it is smoother sailing than the trip down.

With temperatures hitting 35˚C and upwards, trust me to head down into the humid harbour basin of Durban. Luckily Wayne had an answer, a braai by the pool. It wasn’t long after the braai when a mother of thunderstorms hit us. Not so much rain but the electricity discharge was very unsettling to say the least. One strike, light up the sky in an orange flash, 2 seconds later the pressure wave hit us with a bang. My first thought, we are under attack, as that was surely not lightning. With windows rattling, I call it a night, as it is going to be a long day tomorrow.

Fine but Tender

I had a terrible night last night, but thank God I am still alive. After arriving safely at my cousin Eleasha and her husband Wayne’s place in Durban so late, I was stressed and extremely exhausted. I tried to eat something but just picked at my food. Fatigued, I took some headache tablets and crashed.

I woke up sometime in the night, feverish, headachy, and had the squirts. Okay overshare! The stress of yesterday must have hit me hard. I lay in bed sweating yet shivering with cold at the same time. My head was pounding that I could not even put it on the pillow. I started hyper ventilating and the thoughts flashed through my mind that I am not going to wake up here. Wayne would have to call the cops to remove my body while Eleasha would have to go through my phone to find my next of kin’s numbers. Oh dear!

I woke up with the birds chirping outside along with the soft sound of rain. I was alive, but barely. I must have fallen asleep with those dark thoughts. But in the morning I seemed fine but tender. Obviously I planned to take it easy today, but since I am only going to be a day here before heading to Hilton for the week, I went out to get my headlights sorted and like a good little boy I did my fiduciary duties by visiting family members.

It is so Huge!

With the year about to run out of days, eKayaMedia decided to have their year-end function at the Berlin Pub and Restaurant in Ruimsig. Now this establishment specialises in German cuisine and is renowned as the best eisbeins in Johannesburg.

The day was sweltering but that did not stop us from ordering eisbeins and I can now vouch that the eisbein is one of the best I have ever had. The top photo is of Johan and the bottom one is of Denise, both are about to tuck into their huge eisbein. The rest of the photos can be found in my Facebook album Wow it is so HUGE!

Tying the Bow

The week continues. Matthew is at home on holidays while I am at work, doing what I am paid to do. I am quite busy and I tend to let slip my photo per day but then before the end of the day, it hits me, I need to take a photo of something.

Today it was of Wayne tying some Bosasa bows, enjoy boet, rather you than me.

3000th Post

Here are my team mates at eKayaMedia gathered together to wish me all the best on my 3000th post. In the front row, left to right is myself Jerome, Kabelo, Noma, Paballo, Sandra, Calvin, Des, and Ernest. At back is Johan, Ilana, Mpho, Ella, Xolani, Mkuseli, Philip, Bridget, Lawrence, Wayne, Viandre, and Jacques. Below are the three special children Rob, Velile, and Gillis, who couldn't make the group photo. Thank you everyone who participated in this 3000th blog post.

Wow to reach 3000 posts on this blog has been something of a ride. What do you expect with all ups and downs of over eight years of a blog post per day till now? It’s nostalgic looking back through all my posts. Some bring a smile to my face, and some make my eyes all teary, but such are these 2999 memories woven into the fabric of what I call a sorry excuse of my life. And now I have one more which takes it up to 3000.

Every one of these 3000 moments are precious to me even the broken pieces when my days were dark as the light, the joy of life just overwhelms everything else. Someone once said that a photograph can be an instant of life captured for eternity that will never cease looking back at you.

Please feel free to browse through all my life posts, right back to the start in January 2007. Yes one day I’ll look back on all this and smile because it was life and I decided to live it.

Knee Arthroscopy

Welcome back Ella, I pray that you have a speedy recovery from your knee operation.

Peoples are traipsing through of our offices to come welcome Ella back after she had been booked off for over a week recovering from a knee arthroscopy procedure. It sound so painless but the reports back from Ella is that she wouldn’t wish it on her worse enemy, now that’s how painful it was.

Here is Jacques and Wayne welcoming Ella back and listening to the horrors of getting an arthroscope and tiny surgical tools inserted into the knee, urggh.

Ikhwezi Primary

The print side of eKayaMedia was busy with a deadline that require hands to help Ikhwezi Primary School, one of our Corporate Social Investment programs. As they say more hands make light work, and with the digital team getting stuck in, soon we had the deadline licked. Here you can see Sandra, Wayne, Mpho, Pabi, Noma, myself, and Ilana striving for excellence.
Even though we managed to complete the CSI project in record time, Eskom's bad planning caught us out with electricity load shedding, go figure.

Why do superheroes wear capes?

Although not all superheroes wear a cape, the cape may have functional uses as protection or even it can be used as a disguise. The earliest superhero that I can think back to that wore a cape was Zorro and other than cloak and dagger I can’t really find any use for his cape other than tripping over it. Nothing inspires me about Superman’s cape. Batman’s cape was bullet proof, but it wasn’t what was underneath the cape that defined him, now was it.

Wayne, our latest addition to our super hero family here at eKayaMedia, he started as a Brand Co-Ordinator and has yet to prove he is a superhero worthy to wear the Bosasa brand. Although he shares the name of Batman, I hope he doesn’t wear a cape when he is home. Anyway we wish him all the best using his super powers to achieve and grow within our team.

So who is your superhero and does he wear a cape? My favourite marvel comic hero from my youth was Nightcrawler, in the 2000AD comics my favourite was Rogue Trooper, and none of them wore a cape. Ahhh but wait one of my superheroes does wear a cape, Dark Wing Duck, he used his cape as a disguise of sorts.

What does a subatomic duck say?

Quark!

DW, let’s get dangerous!
