Fetching the kids

Shannon, Carol's daughter, and Darrel came to pick up their kids this morning. Carol enjoyed having her grand children around and it was good for them to get to our side of Joburg for a change.

Family Christmas

Since someone in the family tends to away over Christmas, we normally have a family day on the 16th which is a public holiday but this year we are leaving for the Cape on the 16th so we got together today at Shannon. It was a lovely day and the kids swam and played Frisbee. The grownups, me included, sat around and enjoyed the day. Here are the grownups, Steven, me, Carol, Darrel, Shannon, Kenneth and Simone, around the lunch table. We got Matthew to take the photo.

Here are the family weddings on Carol’s side. (From right to left): Jimmy and Daphne (Carol’s mom and dad); Ken and Simone (Carol’s son and daughter-in-law); Darrel and Shannon (Carol’s son-in-law and daughter) and finally but not least Carol and I.

Amy and Darrel

We drove slowly back to Joburg today and in the afternoon the family came round for tea. Here is my grand-daughter Amy owning her daddy Darrel.

The fishermen

Matthew and I got up early this morning to join Darrel and Conner, our trout fishing experts, for some fishing. I was great to be in the fresh air trying to fish. We did not catch anything although Darrel (shown) tried hard to teach us. Jess and Charlene, old friends of ours, later joined us for some brunch. On the way back from Dullstroom, I saw a newspaper front page that reported that 60,000 men turned up at Angus Buchan’s farm in Greytown for the Mighty Men’s Conference. Wow, they were only expecting 30,000 men.
