Cabbage Tree Flowers

After feeding the dogs this morning before heading out to work, I noticed this strange growth out from the cabbage tree. On closer inspection I saw that it must be the flowers of the cabbage tree. Never noticed them before, interesting.

Surveying Her Queendom

It was a quite peaceful day after all the troubles the storm had caused on Monday with Durban feeling the weather’s wroth yesterday.

An assessor came round today to assess the damage and another is coming tomorrow. Thankfully we didn’t suffer much damage, only the swimming pool’s solar water heater took some damage from the large hail, hence the assessor. The one came that came today, came for the roof, tomorrow’s one is for the solar heater.

Today the air was clean and fresh, the sky blue, and Minky surveyed her queendom from her favourite perch in the Cabbage Tree overlooking the veldt while her subjects, the guineafowls, played not too far off.

Surveying the Kingdom

With the veldt in front of our home all burnt to a crisp, there is not much left to hide in, with its blackened earth dotted with protea trees.

Here is Minky, sitting on her perch in the cabbage tree which too was damaged by the intense heat of the fire, surveying her kingdom, or should I say queendom. Minky is not impressed with what she sees, the look of distaste in her face tells it all.

Supermodel Minky

Yip I am sure this cat of ours, Minky, thinks she is a supermodel as she loves to pose. Plus she is a daddy’s girl which makes her never too far from me. In the office she is on the couch and when I go for walks in the garden she follows along with her shadow Paddington.

Cabbage Tree View

Our garden consists of mostly indigenous plants, living long side a nature reserve has its price, nature overflows into our garden. Beautiful plants welcoming beautiful creatures who visit. In the veldt there are a proteas, cabbage trees, and wild peach trees.

This cabbage tree is in our property, the cats love climbing up its soft trunk, and the from the tree the dogs have a nice vantage point into the veldt. Here are my 2 Italian Greyhounds, Maxy and Jade doing what they do second best, gazing into the distance, hoping catch a glimpse of some guinea fowl or a rabbit or two. Second best as the best is all in the chase, baby!
