Strike Day Two

While the strikers assemble outside Umjantshi House, those who aren't allowed to strike, like myself, hold down the fort at Metrorail as best as we can. With no services running it is just a case of keeping the managers laptops and phones working which is putting a strain on the few technicians that are not striking. No Khathu is not on a go-slow but is recovering from all the running around ;-)

Is this the end?

With two offers, I am not sure which one to take. One offers security till retirement but not much growth and the other offers lots of growth with even overseas potential but not much security. So this might be my last day at Metrorail and so I needed a photograph of the team, well two thirds are already on leave which means this is not the full team. In the photo are José, Sello, Masilo, Khathu (seated), Jimmy, Leon, Mulalo, Thanyani and me.

Summer Rains

Along with summer comes the summer rains. I was just about home on Sophia, my Vespa, when the heavens opened up and I was just a little bit soaked. Luckily I didn't catch the hail part which past just ahead of me. Lately I am so busy at Metrorail now that I don't have much time to take photos so I take a quick snap here and there as Karibo and Khathu found out.

Training

The weather was great this morning but by mid afternoon a terrible storm blew over. The IT guys thought it funny that I was on my bike and offered to get me a taxi. Here are some of them getting training from Patrick. From the left clockwise around the table is Theo, Khathu, Jimmy, Masilo (head down), Thabiso, Thanyani, Karabo, Brian, Lerato, Vuyo, Amukelani, Patrick and Khumbu.

Khathu

I heard today that one of the technicians Mpho will be leaving Metrorail to take up an offer in Polokane. This is his replacement Khathu. The poster that was accepted yesterday now has to be branded for Shosholoza Meyl and Autopax so I better get cracking.
