Mc Nab

There has been a drought of some sorts in KwaZulu-Natal since last summer and we decided to travel back up to Johannesburg towing an open trailer with Lynda’s stuff that remained after the sale of her house. Just as we were about to leave soft rain started falling. We said our goodbyes and took the final photos of the Mc Nab family, Greg, Hilton, and Lynda, before braving a soft drizzle. The light rain lasted well up into the midlands. It was looking like it wasn’t our day but eventually the clouds lifted and so did our spirits as the rain stopped.

After Harrismith our hopes were dashed as the clouds burst open but we just pressed on that was until the traffic came to a standstill from an earlier accident. While waiting for the traffic to clean, the clouds added insult to injury by spitting hail down upon us.

Once passed Villiers the traffic cleared up along with the rain as this too became a distant memory.

Walking Hoover

Greg came home after a hard day’s work and walked into Lynda’s busy kitchen. While he was rearranging the freezer, he pea’d onto the floor as frozen peas escaped the packet. Now he had to sweep up the peas without them becoming mushy peas under foot. Thank goodness Duke, the Rottweiler pavement special, was at hand as the walking hoover. Nothing sucks like good old Duke.

Neotel Greg

Greg who works for Neotel came around to visit us in Metrorail where he was based for quite some time. Here he is doing his usual pose for the camera.

Greg's visit

Surprise! Greg decided to grace us with his presence today. Although I only saw him for a short while, it was a good visit catching up.

And Greg limps in

Greg had an encounter with a car on his motorbike on Friday and he forgets to tell me. A few fractured ribs and maybe even a fractured wrist may be a small thing but to only find out on Monday. Sigh, is not on. Thank goodness you are partially alright old man, now to get back onto that horse and no excuses.

Popeye

I'm Popeye the biker man,
I'm Popeye the biker man.
I'm strong to the finich Cause
I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the biker man.

I'm one tough Gazookus
Which hates all Palookas
Wot ain't on the up and square.
I biffs 'em and buffs 'em
And always out roughs 'em
But none of 'em gets nowhere.

If anyone dares to risk my "Fisk",
It's "Boff" an' it's "Wham" un'erstan'?
So keep "Good Be-hav-or"
That's your one life saver
With Popeye the biker man.

I'm Popeye the biker man,
I'm Popeye the biker man.
Some call me Greg
But that will get dem biffed.
I'm Popeye the biker man.

There will be days like these

Some days just go to the dogs. I am still doing work for PRASA and the end is not in sight. All this work came on top of news that my Uncle Billy had passed away this morning from cancer. Out of the seven siblings from my dad side, four are now left. What else can I say other than there will be days like this. Let’s get my mind off sad things; here is Greg with his new puppy Smutch at work.

Stressful day

Tomorrow is Metrorail’s Broad Management Forum and the Communications and Marketing department is jumping to get everything in order. And who do they call. Super Jerome to the rescue. Along with the Women in Rails advert that had to be at the newspapers at 10am, it was non-stop. In between all that was going on Greg pop down from the second floor to chat. Sorry but I don’t think I was a good chatter today.

RCC

Even the RCC department is not too sure what their abbreviation means. Something like the Regional Computer Centre. It is the old name for IT before it became vogue. So why do we have a separate RCC and ICT departments in Metrorail? Greg is scratching his head while Mario just shrugs his shoulders.

Braai day

Today was Magda’s farewell held at Metrorail’s Rolling stock yard. Here is Greg and Magda during the braai. I didn’t stay too long and found myself at David and Di’s house. Di was away for the evening on a girl’s night out so David, looking after his son Luke, asked me to stay and invited one of his colleagues who is also called Greg. David bought this massage Texan steak from the butcher and Greg made a salad. So we boys spent the evening in a sort of primal way, braaing meat on the fire and drinking very good whiskey.

Farewell

February was a busy month and March does not seem any less. The days are hot with afternoon thunderstorms. There was a farewell to one of Metrorail’s staff today. So we had to trudge to a house in Roodepoort for a braai. Paid per hour while braaing. Not bad for a days work. Management help contribute but not one of then decided to pitch up. That to me shows some disrespect but who am I to tell it like it looks. Anyway more meat and beers for us. In the photo is Patrick who is from the Congo, watching how Greg braais the meat.
