Inner City Doodle

The Joburg Photowalkers joined a doodle event at the Ansteys building but added a photowalk before hand around the inner Johannesburg city. I got permission to take the group into the famous Blue Room at Park Station. It is someplace that the older Joburgers remember nostalgically as having the best restaurant in South Africa but that is now all ruins. To see the tall columns of the old concourse is a sight to behold. On the way back we climb to the top of Ansteys sister building, the Manners Mansions build in 1937 by the same architects that did the Ansteys. I am unfit. Here are some of the Joburg Photowalkers, in front are Adrian, Robyn and Gary, and while seated behind are Desiree and Karen and her husband.

Under the Shadow

Under the shadow of the Hillbrow Tower is a cosmopolitan society which strides to pull themselves out of poverty. Today the Joburg Photowalkers started at the Lutheran Church Community Centre in Hillbrow and from there we walked onto the Hillbrow streets. My friend Karen (shown above) said on her blog "Whoever said Joburg was just a messed up city never saw this. It was beautiful..." and I agree with her. Take a look at her wonderful blog Story of Bing. Afterwards we headed to Johannesburg’s oldest surviving pub, the Radium Beerhall, for lunch. See my Facebook album, Under the shadow of the tower, to see more photos.

Three peas in a pod

This morning I was feeling much better but by afternoon my nose started running and I was sneezing quite a bit. Oh boy I better start phase two of my "Get Better Plan". Taking about how a plan comes together, here is Pauline, Saskia and Karen. I don't think I have the twins together on my blog. Pauline and Saskia are twins although they look and act totally differently.

Days like this

Yes there will be days like this where I just want to throw in the towel. But it doesn't help to complain. Back at BBC we started a new series called iJesus. So far so good. Here are two ladies, Karen and Athena, afterwards who also come to our Home Group.

Heavy Day

One of our colleagues, Thembinkosi, passed away last Friday after a sudden illness. I did not know much about him as he sat on the opposite side of an open plan office and just about kept to himself. What is bugging me is that I did not know him. Discussing the memorial service this morning I raised the question “Was he a Christian?” Well it was a good question in regards to the memorial service but it is rather late to find this out. What would people ask about me one day? Does the person sitting in the same office as me know where I stand on certain issues? Do they know me? I was so exhausted by the time I got home that I just crashed. I was still feeling this heaviness when I went to home group this evening. I don’t think anyone picked my stillness up. The topic this evening was persistent prayer and I just sat there just listening and wondered how many times I just gave up. Well it is time I head for bed. Here is a much lighter photograph from this evening during tea showing Karen and Tracy.

Parties Abound

While the world celebrated the inauguration of America’s first black president, we launched our home cell group meetings for the year with a lovely dinner at the Sims. I must say that Petra’s baked cheesecake was scrumptious. Here is Florence, Poppie (Karen) and Emmelinah who have just shared a joke. Okay pass me sum mor cheesecake.

Sandy and Poppie

After a long day at Metrorail, I ended up at Home Cell in the evening which I look forward too during the week. Here is Sandy and Karen also known affectionally as Poppie. She is good looking and single. Because of this I tease her frequently that she should try Australia or New Zealand as they have plenty of lonely sheep farmers. A bonus is that she is a well trained nurse. Any offers?

New puppies

Here is a word for my lovely friend Jackie to say, "Puppies". She has this wonderful French accent. Tuesday home cell started up again after a two break and the first thing that I notice is not all the new artwork but the two new puppies at the Sims. One a dachshund and the other a rhodesian ridgeback. Don't ask me their names but here is Karen holding the dachshund.
