Day 64 - Cyclamen Tunnel

Lockdown Day 64 - I had to go to President Hyper to buy groceries for one of the council women from our local area who has not been outside since the Coronavirus had been declared a pandemic. It has not been easy doing shopping for someone else who you hardly even know. 

Anyhoo, I had to go through that disinfectant tunnel again, this time my temperature was a nice cool 31.9°C. On the otherside of the tunnel was these lovely bright coloured flowers, according to the price lollipop stand they were called Cyclamen.

Day 29 - 35.8°C and still okay

 

Lockdown Day 29 - And there you have it, I am at a normal 35.8°C. Lockdown must be somehow flattening the curve here in South Africa but if you compare the numbers with say Australia, something just doesn't add up. The auzzies have more Corona cases but less deaths than us in South Africa. It is best I stay this temperature. 

So here I am back at President Hyper, the only place in town that measures your temperature before going into the store. Now I wonder what would happen if you have a fever. Would the guards bounce your arse out of the shop?

Day 19 - 35.2°C

 

Lockdown Day 19 - I went to buy more supplies and was very surprised ho jacked up the President Hyper in Krugersdorp. They were the first to take my temperature, a normal 35.2°C then I went through a sanitising tunnel, also a first. Well done President Hyper. Now why does a small supermarket chain in a backwater town be able to outshine the giants of Pick 'n Pay and Checkers. Why?

Oh this morning I prayed for a conformation sign and on this sanitising tunnel is the words "We Care".

It is my turn to cook supper, so on the way home from work, I stopped at the President Hyper in Krugersdorp, which at first thought would not be competitive due to the economy of scale that stores like Pick n Pay have but it came to a shock that President Hyper was very competitive in most sections. For example I bought 200g shoulder bacon at R15.00 compared to the same brand at Pick and Pay and it was over R22.00. So what is up with Pick n Pay and their so called Price Watch nonsense?

Anyway the reason for this post, it is month end and as expected the supermarkets are full of shoppers but the biggest differentiator at President Hyper with other big super market chains was that nearly every till was manned. President Hyper had 32 tills in the front, all manned by friendly staff and at the side, half of the 12 tills were manned. That is 38 manned tills, I think PnP can take home a lesson all the way from the West Rand. The bonus for me was that although the store was extremely busy and I was tired after a long day at work, I didn’t waste any time finding what I wanted, and getting processed through the payment system efficiently.
