Sugarbush

Our first Sugarbush Ridge Coalition meeting took place this afternoon. It was a rush to get from Sandton to the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens but I made it although slightly late at least I beat Andrew who lives on the property as he arrived after me. From left to right are Tony, Belinda, Dawid, Gerald, Johann, and Andreas. 

When the Wife Calls

The year is coming to an end fast and year end functions are adding up on the list. Today is SRC's turn and the best place for our final meeting is over beers at Silver Star. Towards the end Andrew's phone rang, it was the missus. Time to finish up our beers and head home.

A Lady named Gregg

This morning I had a Proteadal Conservation Association meeting with a socialite called Gregg, a lady who is good at organising large fund raising events. Yes you read correctly, her first name is Gregg and she even showed me her ID when she saw the question in my eyes. Believe me when I tell you she reminded me of the Johnny Cash’s song "A Boy Named Sue" and remembering the song I did not even smile.

For the record, I got on well with her bubbly character, and think with a name like Gregg, she is going places.

Representing the PCA was June, Belinda, and myself at the Cafe Muse just outside the Featherbrooke Estate. I must say it was a good meeting with Gregg, and a Golf Day is planned for February next year to Save the Ridge from developers. The Ridge is the ridge system stretching from Constantia Kloof all the way to Kings Kloof. It is home to a myriad of animals including the nesting Black Eagles at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens. There are also a number of Red Listed plants only found here such as the Albertina Sisulu Orchids with little over 100 left in the world, and right in the path of developers who want to build high density flats. So you can now understand the urgency of trying to save the ridge.

The Beast and 35 Sucks

It is our first weekend in our new home. We still have boxes everywhere and we don’t know when we are going to see the end of the move but today we conquer the Beast and later a 35th birthday braai together with a Daknatmaak.

So first the Beast, They said it is fun for the whole family, a workout with a difference, but I just shook my head, haven’t I already do 2 years of army why must I pay to challenge myself basic army training style. The Beast is more than just an obstacle race. It’s about getting out, being active and making memories. Get dirty, have fun and have some great stories to tell. Well after this we did, so I will just let the images do the talking.

Still not convinced that the Beast is only for adventure junkies and mad men, well at least my brother Anthony and his wife’s family did it not for the competition but for fun, to conquer the Beast.

After that the rest was all tame. It was time for the 35 Sucks birthday party, okay not sucks but a Gert’s 35th birthday braai and Daknatmaak or in English a Roof Wetting Party.
