Princess of Sheba

Walking through the gardens of Mogale Business Park during lunch time, keeping well clear of the swan pair and their cygnets, I was surprised to stumble upon the three female Nyala. The Nyala weren’t the surprise but the fawn that was with them. I wonder how I missed this little one before.

Oh yes, now I remember, as in the wild Nyala are bashful creatures and these kept to themselves hidden in the vegetation. Sorry but this is the best I could get of the Princess of Sheba with my point and shoot camera which is at most times carried with me where ever I go. You can see the three concerned mommies in the shadow behind baby.

Princess Sheba as I am now calling her is beautiful was inquisitive, and seemed torn between following the three females into the undergrowth and this animal called a human. I wish I could have stayed longer with them but I didn’t want to spook them any further.

Nyala Up Close

Imagine my surprise when walking along a path in Mogale Business Park with my head down concentrating on my cellphone, I heard a rustle to my right, looking up I saw a male Nyala not even 2 metres away from me.

I slowly pulled my camera out of my pocket, thinking that he would have scurried away before I could even switch it on. Luckily, he just put his head down chomped on some foliage without a concern in the world. I didn’t even check my settings as I slowly raised up my camera and shot away. I could even reach out and touch him, but I didn’t risk it as he is a wild animal after all with rather large horns.

I wish I could have spent more time with this Nyala up close and personal but in this busy world of ours, time is very precious.

Nyala

Forgive my double negatives but this aren’t no April’s Fools, but this is the view from my new offices, Bosasa in the Mogale Business Park. Driving in here is like driving into a bird sanctuary with more local bird species seen navigating to my office than seen in the whole year so far. Other than many birds, I have seen tortoises and springboks in the few months leading up to me joining this digital team but today within 5 meters from me this Nyala with his harem of 3 females ambled past grazing.

Now pray tell how on earth I am going to settle down and get work done? At least I should have many blog subjects in the coming weeks.
