Tiger's Tears

Our year end function was held at Tiger's Milk in Bryanston this afternoon along with loadshedding which started yesterday and continuing today at level 4. Eish what is our government doing to this country, what?

Anyway Tiger's Milk was packed to the rafters with millennials having a Friday afternoon of note. It looks like a number of year end parties are happening at the same time. We started with nachos, piled up in a head and smothered in cheese and guacamole sauce, yummy. Most of us ordered off the burger menu including me but the burgers were so huge that Josh had to show us how to eat them.

Wacky Wednesday

It was getting near midday, when the boss man piped up, "What's today?". "Wednesday", came our reply, "all day". The boss man then exclaimed "Wacky Wednesday" and went on how he loves Steers, Wacky Wednesday deal of 2 burgers for the price of 1 on Wednesdays at this South African burger joint. And before we knew he had ordered everyone in the office Steers burgers for lunch.

Welcome to my world.

Leaning Tower of Burger

Leaning tower burger of no respect. Since Matthew had to missed a test due to his mom's passing, a rewrite was scheduled for this morning. I picked him up afterwards and we went to breakfast. Other than sushi, our other soul food is chicken burgers from KFC, especially the Tower Rounder.

Well today the tower was leaning very alarmingly that Matthew promptly stated that it was the Leaning Tower of Burger.

Vintage Amber

This morning, I wasn’t sure my meeting in Rustenburg with the largest supplier of stainless steel convoluted hoses in Southern Africa was still on as the owner, Henk, left the night before to contact training down in Richards Bay over 750km away which is about 8 and a half hours drive. But after assurances that he will be in for my meeting, we took a slow drive up to Rustenburg.

After driving through the night, Henk, made it to our meeting high on energy drinks. I must admit, it was a long drive back and I would not be looking so chippy. Good news it was a successful meeting and on the drive back Anthony and I stopped at a small roadside café called Vintage Amber near Magaliesburg to celebrate. The food was good and tasty, just what the good doctor ordered.

Roadhouse Burger

So after a night on the other side of humanity, we finally back home safely and what better treat than to end up at the roadhouse for some affordable burgers, roadhouse style.

Rocco Sons

Now we have had Rocomamma, and RocoPapa, what is left is Rocco & Sons. So how did we get here, well Eskom is busy doing testing in our area and had switched off the power grid in the morning and put it back on late in the afternoon but when we arrived home, our sector was still in the dark. Eskom said they could only come out about 10pm. Not even fair as they should have made sure all sectors were working before leaving as unbeknown to everyone, thieves had come along and stole the cables near our house. Sigh!

This meant that we had to go out to dinner, so we decided to try the Papachinos in Broadacres, down the road. Oh no where we had no electricity, Broadaches had no water as they were under water-shedding. What is happening to Jozi?

At Papachinios, we found the Rocco & Sons Butchery sign on the wall. Well the food was good with comparable prices, but the drinks very expensive, and due to the lack of water no coffees, even on such a cold evening as tonight.

Although we didn’t need the rest room, does water-shedding meant that the toilets weren’t working and a bucket system is in place?

Sign of the Times

Every once and a while we decide to go out to the roadhouse for some good affordable lunch. Normally on a Sunday the Burger Box Roadhouse is very packed and we have to wait for a decent lunch but today pulling into our neighbourhood drive in roadhouse we were surprised to find it just about void of cars.

Is Burger Box Roadhouse closing down, has the quality gone down that the clientele are staying away, or is it the sign of the times where the cost of everything is going up but salaries are staying the same? We are feeling the pinch but surely it can’t be salticrax time of the month already?

Rockets Go Fish

Yes “gone fishing” is what I need to do rather than what I actually had to do. As I walk in the door this morning, I discover that I have a meeting in Rivonia on the other side of town with Go Fish and Coppertable, then it was off to lunch at Rockets just up the road and then rush back for a team leaders meeting. The gourmet burger that I had at Rockets was good and tasty but I wonder if it matches up to the quality of a Rocco Mama’s burger. Sigh a day in the life of Jerome.

Well today was not that bad, it just got away with me and before I knew it, it was well 6pm. One good thing is that I saw in my travels today was this interesting table at Go Fish. It had computer motherboards embedded into it. I don’t think that it would be suitable for a lounge setting but for an IT company, it becomes a interesting talking point.

RocoMamas, who’s your Daddy?

After seeing this not so normal burger joint springing up all over Johannesburg and reading my fellow blogging friend’s review, Three Awesome New Places to Hang Out in Melville, I just had to give RocoMamas’ smash burger a try.

And I wasn’t disappointed. No siree! We chose the Bacon Cheese Guac burger for only R53.00 each plus medium fries to share for R20. Yummy. These are not your normal burgers. 150g smashed beef burger patty, smothered in aged cheddar, some bacon on top, a generous squirt of smoked mayonnaise, a lob of guacamole, a tomato slice, and some red onion slices, all packed lusciously into a slightly toasted bun.

To make sure that it wasn't a one hit rock 'n roll wonder, this weekend I went to the RoccoMamas at Belairs and the one iat Pineslopes. So RocoMamas, who’s your daddy? Step aside Roco Papa, Roco Mama is in town to rock us.
