Pop goes the Bubble

Finally the bubble chair that was ordered from Italy in April arrived today with our team all excited but wait isn’t there made in China on that box? Oh well lets be like an iPhone which is I hope designed in the US but made in sweat shops in China. So without popping anyone’s bubble, this bubble chair must have been designed in Italy and manufactured in China.

Musical chairs anyone? Because of the long wait, great expectations was built up and now is the time to test ride this baby.

Ahhh about time - Nomanangaliso

Revenge of the Fifth

"What the galaxy, did someone say that I get a half day because it is my birthday? Well I better take a rain check on that." Yes today is Gillis' birthday, and as extremely busy as what the Signage team is, not even Gillis knows when that half day would be squeezed in. Well anyway, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... You were born, happy birthday Gillis and since I am on the Star Wars theme I must not forget my good friend Gary who also celebrates his birthday today, as he revenges the fifth.

It is so Huge!

With the year about to run out of days, eKayaMedia decided to have their year-end function at the Berlin Pub and Restaurant in Ruimsig. Now this establishment specialises in German cuisine and is renowned as the best eisbeins in Johannesburg.

The day was sweltering but that did not stop us from ordering eisbeins and I can now vouch that the eisbein is one of the best I have ever had. The top photo is of Johan and the bottom one is of Denise, both are about to tuck into their huge eisbein. The rest of the photos can be found in my Facebook album Wow it is so HUGE!

DMX Temptations

I felt much better this morning after a good night’s rest with an overdose of headache pills. Today is good as a holiday as today is the DMX Conference which is to be held in the Hilton Hotel, Sandton. The three photos below where taken of some of the many Japanese masks found at the restaurant. Interesting as we always find ourselves hiding behind masks.

I suppose my aim is still the MozCon but I have to settle for something closer to home until that time I would be able to go to that not so typical marketing conference. So here we are listening to different speakers on Digital Marketing picking up a few new ideas and also to confirm that we are on the right track.

Okay there was no Google represented, nor was there a Rand Fishkin but some speakers did stand out, Scott Cundill and his Fire and Forget idea but where could we use it, Lynette Hundermark on mobile tends and opportunities, Ryan Hogarth and his off the cuff without technical aids talk, and then there was Dylan Kohlstadt which I could swear is my friend Delia’s doppelgänger.

Well anyway being the Hilton, the lunch would be perfect temptations although as you can see the salad before me which is what the doctor ordered even with all the delicious sweets on display. Okay, okay I can’t tell a lie I did cheat but aren’t going to show those photos.

Angry Bees

The unmistakeable sound of angry bees buzzed from all directions as our new drone, the DJI Inspire 1, took off on its first test flight outside our offices at eKayaMedia. The buzzing somehow reminded me of an very old song about the stinging tsetse flies and the crocodile eyes in the hot Zambezi valley.

Basically the Inspire 1 is an all in one flying camera which from our tests today, is a breeze to fly and very very stable. So with the Inspire 1 set on Beginners mode (limited range of 30m whereas on normal settings can operate up to 2km away), the nimble Inspire took off and reached its Beginners limit in less than 2 seconds.

This is no slouch as the book says it can reach about 80km/h which for action shots is the perfect drone. Oh and when this baby takes off, the landing gear along with the rotors re-position itself into a higher position thereby getting out of the way of the camera.

The multimedia team which consists of Lawrence, Kabelo, and Des, have decided to call this Terminator looking drone, Blade 1.

Training Wings

With our camera drone order just around the corner, here is Des busy homing his drone flying skills on this lightweight Parrot camera drone. He loaded a new cellphone app onto his phone and was testing flying via his phone and wi-fi.

3000th Post

Here are my team mates at eKayaMedia gathered together to wish me all the best on my 3000th post. In the front row, left to right is myself Jerome, Kabelo, Noma, Paballo, Sandra, Calvin, Des, and Ernest. At back is Johan, Ilana, Mpho, Ella, Xolani, Mkuseli, Philip, Bridget, Lawrence, Wayne, Viandre, and Jacques. Below are the three special children Rob, Velile, and Gillis, who couldn't make the group photo. Thank you everyone who participated in this 3000th blog post.

Wow to reach 3000 posts on this blog has been something of a ride. What do you expect with all ups and downs of over eight years of a blog post per day till now? It’s nostalgic looking back through all my posts. Some bring a smile to my face, and some make my eyes all teary, but such are these 2999 memories woven into the fabric of what I call a sorry excuse of my life. And now I have one more which takes it up to 3000.

Every one of these 3000 moments are precious to me even the broken pieces when my days were dark as the light, the joy of life just overwhelms everything else. Someone once said that a photograph can be an instant of life captured for eternity that will never cease looking back at you.

Please feel free to browse through all my life posts, right back to the start in January 2007. Yes one day I’ll look back on all this and smile because it was life and I decided to live it.

Desmond at Forty

Well some people make a big deal about reaching the middle point of their lives and others like Desmond shown above, well just move on as if it was just a small speed bump in their lives. If we didn’t keep quiet about it, no one would have known as the day slipped slowly by.

Oh well Des, happy fortieth birthday old man.

Captain Hop Along

What is all this foot fetish things that my friends are suffering from? Last Wednesday one of my friends Jedidjah, fractured her toe, not to be left out her husband Mark tore his Achilles tendon the next day, and on the same day Desmond, from work decided to drop a railway sleeper onto his foot. Go figure hop alongs.

Here is Des, Monday morning wearing his new boot doing his best Captain Morgan impression. He was telling me that if his foot doesn’t heal correctly then he will need to get pins implanted into his foot.

Ella and Des

With the first month here at Bosasa coming to an end, work load is increasing by the minute. But so far I am enjoying the challenge being the coordinator of new media, in other words the interweb.

Here is Ella, the graphic designer with Desmond aka Des the motion graphics specialist. To infinity and beyond.
