Mams

Custom Couches asked me to help out at their first Pop Up Store at Mams Mall in deepest Africa or that what it felt like driving over an hour to somewhere North East of Pretoria in Mamalodi. The mall is very modern with most of the leading retail stores. SO here I am on a long weekend sitting in a pop up shop, thank goodness the aircon works.

Marco and Calvin

Ahhh the last day of the Rand Easter Show, it couldn't come earlier although I must say I didn't do badly at the show, being here everyday even through the quiet weekdays, it all paid off in the end.

Marco and Calvin came to help out at the stand over the weekend. even on weekends, sales only tended to come from 3pm onwards. Mornings was a long wait but the few leads pays off in the end. I can't wait for the coming week. Somewhere during the past week, I hurt my lower back and I am struggling just to get going in the morning. It is getting progressively worse so I think I better go see the back doctor.

Toktokkie

I am not sure what this is that visited us today, is it a frog, a cricket, or even a toktokkie? What is a toktokkie, you may be asking? A toktokkie is a Darkling beetle which makes a knocking sounds, hence the children's game of knocking on people's doors and running away, the game called tok-tokkie.

Whoa Mama!

Great Scot, so here we are having some fun at the Rand Show in what we expected a quiet week between 2 busy weekends. Johnny Bravo, the one man army and the original chick magnet visited our stand today, and here is Kojak making sure a bit of the Johnny charm would rub off.

Rand Show 18

Yesterday after breaking bread with my Connect group family I had to rush off to man the Custom Couches stand at the Rand Show 2018. As grandfather of the founders, I am uniquely placed to help them out at events such as the Rand Show. Yesterday and today was busy and I expect tomorrow and the next 2 days will be too.

Sick Duke

Thanks Marco, I felt like I had been run over by a bus this morning. My eyes and nose felt all squashed up together like, with a steam train running through my head. Yes Marco has been struggling with flu for the last 6 weeks and he has been in at the show daily. I must have caught some bug from him because I felt real bad this morning.

I crawl out of bed, overdose on Corensa C, Grippon, and headache tablets, and somehow managed to ride Scarlet to the Randfontein Show. Don't ask me how we managed to get here in one piece, all I know Scarlet can ride herself without any intervention from me. I just need to hold on. After opening up Custom Couches stand, I got myself a slash puppy, put my feet up on the Duke L-Shape couch, closed my eyes and slowly sipped the iced cool drink.

Towards the end of the morning I was burning with a fever. Which to me is a good thing because I know my body is fighting the virus. The battle was hard but I eventually gave up trying to keep my eyes open and Scarlet carried me home to sleep the rest of the day away.

Queen of the Show

Day 3 of Custom Couches at the Randfontein Show, and my Vespa called Scarlet, has become quite a hit with old and young alike. I am glad that she is shining at the show, getting all the attention she deserves because normally like a true Poser, she would be parked in the garage and taken out occasionally but at this show she is becoming the star, the queen bee.

The Randfontein Show is getting very busy, it feels like the entire West Rand is passing through the gates and the long hours is starting to get to me.

Off Cuts

Matthew has his first summer job at the furniture factory, Custom Couches. Matric is finally over, and after a short holiday to the seaside, it is work until varsity starts next year to study an IT degree. To jump into the deep end, Custom Couches has him sorting all the off cuts from one big mess to neat piles sorted by fabrics and colour.

Mini Couches

Way back in June this year I met a lady who was selling miniature couch door stoppers. Some lady from Vereeniging was making them. I expressed interest in some samples for Custom Couches and finally on Monday they arrived. These door stoppers are basically a brick for the weight and are covered in decorative fabrics to resemble mini couches. Cute aren’t they?

Just in time too as the furniture factory of Custom Couches which was bursting at the seams moved to a new premises. The showroom will be expanded into what was the old factory. The new mini couches will be perfect in the new showroom.

Custom Couches at Decorex

Decorex is one of the elitist décor shows in Johannesburg and it has been a goal for Custom Couches to be at Decorex. Custom Couches started about 3 or 4 years ago as a family furniture business. And they went from strength to strength as the years went by. Being family they asked me to help them this weekend as they heard that it was going to get busy over the weekend and it did. Well done Custom Couches may you continue to grow positively.

Loves the Pixi

I have been asked to help out this weekend at Custom Couches stand at Decorex. More about that on another post but most visitors to the stand just love the Dani cuddle couch and this one the Baby Pixi is a hit with the little ones.

Lynda at Custom Couches

Lynda and I went across to see the new showroom at Custom Couches which has been a long time coming and of course to spend time with granddaughter Rebekah.

Furniture is something people are always looking for a bargain for and where else can you get a quality build couch from only R2750 in Johannesburg other than Custom Couches, uhmmm quality for quality nowhere else I think. Anyways Lynda and I test sat all the couches that were on display in the new showroom in North Riding, Randburg, looking for the best fit couch for our style and budget. As they say at Custom Couches, affordable is not just a name, it is a promise at Custom Couches.

Custom Couches Showroom Upgrade

Custom Couches have been going for 3 years now and they have come a long way from their humble beginnings out of the single family garage. The demand for quality couches at affordable prices grew as people came, and came, and came. By the end of their first year the couch manufacturing had spilled out into the yard and soon up the driveway.

In Custom Couches' 2nd year they had to take a leap of faith and move into a mini factory and now by the end of their 3rd year even this factory has become too small. Happy birthday Custom Couches. Thank you for making great furniture at better prices.

First impressions count, so now Custom Couches have decided to expand and revamp their showroom into something that will wow potential buyers even more than the prices. With Custom Couches quality doesn’t have to be expensive.

Google Couch

Lynda's daughter, Robynne and her partner, Marco, has built Custom Couches as a family business from their single garage at home. They and their furniture company have grown in leaps and bounds in the few years. Operating from a mini factory in Johannesburg, custom orders are coming in from all over.

Since we were in the area looking at bathroom suppliers this morning we popped in afterwards to visit our granddaughter, Rebekah. And while there a saw this Chrome logo shaped couch which is part of an order from Google South Africa. Nice.

Jamaal

With Custom Couches working flat out to get 30 custom made tub chairs finished for a restaurant in Kenya, the Custom Couches Team worked flat out for the last five days and they managed to produce an exceptional product on time.

Here is a relieved Jamaal finishing off the final chair and now his weekend can begin and if he has time he'll get some sleep.
