The Reed Dance
Getting lost amongst the labyrinth of pathways at the Misty Hills Country Hotel in Muldersdrift, we stumbled upon this pottery mural called The Reed Dance which was created by Chris Patton.
On our African safari at Misty Hills, this mural gave us quite a start. Like a surprising flock of hadidas. No don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t the beauty of the naked body depicted in art that gave us a surprise but the maleness of the faces depicted in the uMhlanga. This is supposed to be a rendition of the cultural celebration of young Zulu and Swazi women but I am now not sure what the artist was trying say with this piece.
