Switcheroo
Okay it was the first time I ever heard this word "switcheroo" used. It sounded intriguing in the context it was used, the black eagles did a switcheroo. Huh? After getting back home, I just had to look up if this was a real word, sorry Andrew, it is, switcheroo: a sudden, unexpected variation or reversal. It is colloquially used in reference to an act of swapping two objects. Wow switcheroo was even in my spell check. Well you learn a new word every day, thanks Andrew for this new word.
Tomorrow I have another hike down into the kloof to check on the repairs to stop the raw sewerage leaks that have been flowing for quite some time now into the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens. Now my light hiking shoes have not fared well over the years and I did a switcheroo. See what I did there, got my old replaced by a new pair but NOOO that is not quite what switcheroo means.
I had to go to 2 different conservation meetings this afternoon at the Botanical Gardens, with representatives from the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, Botanical Society of South Africa, Wild Orchids of Southern Africa, Proteadal Conservation Association, and the Black Eagle Project, just to drop names. And it was at the first meeting when I was asking about the Black Eagle pair that are currently nesting at the gardens that the word switcheroo was used by Andrew the chief horticulturist at the Botanical Gardens.
When the Botanical Gardens was established in 1982, there was a pair of Black Eagles nesting near the waterfall. Reports of this female dated way back to early 70s with the males changing 3 times over the years. The latest male showed up in 1999 as a young 4 year old eagle. Last year no eagles nested which was a big let down and then this year the pair of black eagles showed up and started building the nest again but it was only the male building the old nest with the female starting an entire new nest further away from the waterfall. It was only by April that a switcheroo was discovered. A new young female had replaced the old 40 year old female.

One Step
The weather is changing and a cold front is about to hit us and I am not in a good place after all what is happened in the last few weeks. So I get out of bed as I have to get to the bank somehow and I stare at my shoes which have to be put on. Today was a 1 step in front of the other kind of day.

Not Pretty but Practical
Not pretty boots but these old working boots are made for walking and they are comfortable. Yes looking at them tells me that it is time to buy another pair as these are starting to look a little shabby.
Somehow today just overtook me and before I knew it I was home taking my boots off. Wait today was so busy that I practically forgot to take a photo for the day, oh well now comes the hard part, what photo can I take that I never done before, and my boots just stared right back at me.

Silver Pumps
Close your eyes, tap your heels three times and think to yourself, there’s no place like home! Oh that was ruby slippers not silver pumps. Oh my I must be getting old as I never in my life would have called these shoes to be called pumps. We would call them court shoes.
Ella ordered this pair of silver shoes online at the Mr Price e-store yesterday afternoon and we all were very impressed with the next day delivery. Yeah, fist pump!

Made for Walking
These shoes are made for walking, but today I took them off while at work, well the main reason was that I love walking bare feet and secondly Noma was off sick today and she sits opposite me so any possibility of smelly feet won't be noticed.
Nah, my feet don't stink, it is mainly for the first reason. Anyway today was an all out coding day, updating a legacy website using old style ASP Classic and coded in a very old school kind of way. This means lots of unravelling just to figure out what the long gone developer was thinking. This takes time because as you figure out what is going on, you discover another unbeknown section. It was by end of the day, it felt very refilling and I wanted someone to shout "Give that man a Bells" but nothing came. So I whoop it up in my own kind of way.
These shoes are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do.

Merrell Shoes
The first thing that I do when I arrive home is kick my shoes off and put my feet up. These boots, well Merrells in my case, are made for walking but at the end of the day I just love going bare feet. To feel the warm African soil beneath my feet and grass between my toes is what it is all about. My one friend, Gary who is a Director of an IT company, goes bare feet whenever he can. I remember Gary walked into a meeting with Microsoft without any shoes on; well he was forgiven because that day was a fundraising day where you raise awareness for those who don't own shoes by spending the entire day bare feet.
