Waterproofing

 

We weren't sure if the weather would clear, but it seems that God held the rain at bay especially in our neck of the woods just enough to water proof our leaking flat roof. After getting detailed instructions from Dudley of Rubber It, on how to use his liquid rubber product, we washed down the roof with soapy water and scrapped off any lose material.When that was dry, I sealed all the joints with gauze and acrylic waterproofing paint. Then once that was dry we applied the first coat of the liquid rubber compound to the roof which had to go on in one direction. Then we will leave it to dry overnight and apply a second coat this time in the perpendicular direction tomorrow.

Lets hope the rain will hold off till Monday.

Paint Dry

Ancient mariners used to say that fair weather when setting out from port was always a bad omen compared to getting the bad weather over and done with at the beginning of the voyage. Setting out for Bloemfontein didn't get to a good start.

The plan was for me to get picked up between 6 and 7, well I finally got picked up just before 12. This at work just got away with very one that the departure time just got pushed out to 9am and again to 12. I was by this time even considering taking my Vespa down. I have done long trips on my Vespa before but with my back as it is, I was concerned.

Finally the double cap pick up arrived, and with a bit of rearranging the load, we were on our way and finally arrived at 4pm in Bloemfontein. Now to get our stand sorted out before the main load arrives.

I was tasked to manage 2 labourers paint the feature wall red, while the others set out to sort our accommodation. So here I am watching the paint dry. 

This has been a long day. Hopefully with a bumpy start, things will smooth out from here on and it will a blessing to be here.

Universal Paints Fail

Oh dear, see what happens when you try save a few rands in the building renovations. We are nearing the end of converting our home office into a rentable cottage, thank goodness. Yes taking on a project like this has its ups and downs, 1 of the downs is the outside paint.

I went into the closest Universal Paints shops here on the West Rand and asked for the closest match to the existing colour instead of a deep tint to match exactly which would have cost a couple of hundred rand more but my thinking is if you paint corner to corner you would not see a slight colour difference. Well as you can see, with Universal Paint’s standard colours nothing comes close to the outside of my house. My bad, as this is the colour blind test result.
