Torn Flag


Driving home after taking Matthew and Jaen back to Benoni this afternoon I saw a battered and torn South African flag flapping in the stormy wind on a rocky outcrop next to the N1 highway by Lyttelton, Pretoria.

It was a disgraceful sight and as I photographed the torn flag from my car, I wondered if this is how many South Africans feel after a stormy week of racial accusations, finger pointing, and just pain ugliness that is paying out in South Africa. What has happened to love and the Rainbow Nation?
