Eating Naartjies

Ahhh one of my favourite fruits, the sweet naartjie, mainly because it is not messy as it can be easily peeled and segmented. The naartje or tangerine as it is called in other countries is a small citrus, smaller than an orange and with a loose skin that makes peeling a dream. Having 2 naartjes in my lunch box to eat during the day is just what the doctor ordered.

Naartjie Skins

This is all that is left from my lunch, naartjie skins or as it is better know outside South Africa mandarins.

Lynda was going to be home late and I had a meeting with my mentor so there was no supper prepared this evening. Knowing this I ate throughout the day and arrived home not hungry at all but made myself a lekker salad and put my feet up and enjoyed the evening and binge watching men's stuff on Netflix.

Lazy Apple

And on my boss man's desk is this lazy apple or better known as a pear. So why do I call the pear a lazy apple. Well when I was younger I thought that some apples on the apple tree were very lazy and started drooping, hence the pear shape. Well the pear certainly did not fall far from the apple tree.

Happy Bosses' Day, oh is that a day now?

Yesterday was Nuts

So as I munch on my mixed nuts and fruit, I was contemplating on the manic traffic yesterday. I mean today I left the same time as yesterday yet today it took me one and a half hours compared to yesterday's two and a half terrible hours sitting in the rush hour traffic.

Yummy, these nuts and fruit are awesome.

Lazy Apple

When I was young, I always thought that the Pear Tree formed when an Apple Tree got kind of lazy and gravity got hold of the apples which started to droop, hence the pear.

Oh well that’s just me and my wild imagination.

In today’s lunch was this huge pear, a juicy one at that. In middle of enjoying eating the pear, I thought that this would make a wonderful photograph.

Apple Core

I am very grateful that I have food to eat while at work in these times where majority of the world population struggle to live on less than a $2.50 a day. I am trying, okay, to cut expenses, such as keeping visits to the Diner to a minimum by bringing my own lunch to work. The food in the diner is good and at a reasonable price but it adds up both on the waist and wallet. So in my scoff tin, I pack for lunch things like apples, bananas, avocado filled sandwiches, and when available left-overs from the night before.

So now I am left with only a banana skin and an apple core.

Grapefruit Breakfast

After an awesome three day weekend, it is only fitting to start this Ruby Monday with a Ruby Grapefruit eaten with a teaspoon. Now I am ready to tackle this week, hoo-hah! Remember it is only first place or nothing this week as second is only the first loser.

The Fruit Seller

As the world woke up for work this Monday, they collectively held their breaths waiting for fresh news of our ailing Nelson Mandela. Tata's health took a turn for the worse this weekend and is in serious condition in a Pretoria hospital.

This winter's morning was bitterly cold but this didn't stop the journalists and TV crews from camping outside the hospital and Nelson's home in Houghton. As I arrived in Houghton, I found news people set up in the street around the house. They were trying to keep warm by hogging the weak rays of the morning sun. I had to nudge them aside just to get to work. For us locals, although we are concerned for Tata's health, it is life as usual as he is an old man and we feel they should let him be. Here is one local, doing a much better job than the journalists and TV crews in keeping warm while selling her fruit to the passerbys rushing on their way to work.
