Greta and Dave

Ah they can say you can choose your friends but not you family but I don’t mind having Greta and Dave as part of my family even though it is through marriage. I bump into both of them regularly at Bryanston Bible Church where we catch up on family news.

Potchefstroom

During the week Magda contacted me to see if I was interested in a road trip to Potchefstroom as Dave needed to stretch the legs of his new orange Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport.

Sun, beers and the open road what more can I ask for. Of course a ride into the countryside and over 300km later my arse is sore, have sun burnt arms and am super tired. After taking the scenic route via Kroomdraai and Carletonville, we lunched at the Beef Boys in an empty student town. I can only picture that Potchefstroom must buzz when filled with varsity students. But for now a quiet oaked lined streets of the Bult will have to do.

I am out of practice with very few long rides done this year. Well next year, I am looking forward to the Baviaanskloof Adventure. Ahhh the open road with a Vespa purring beneath you.

Actual Events

It was raining softly as I left work this afternoon and carefully made my way to BBC. Merville had arranged a meeting with himself, Dave and me to discuss that I head up the usher duties at BBC. It might sound easy, but the admin work which involves drawing up and managing a roster and that scares me. Well the real reason is that I am not good at names, faces yes but names, they one second there and the next gone even while they still talking to me. Anyway I better sleep on it and hopefully this will all be gone in the morning. Now why do I have Meat Loaf's song playing in my head?

The meeting allowed me to get to know Dave better; we meet each other in the corridors of BBC and never really spend time to get to know each other. Now we having a meal together. Dave owns the event management company, Actual Events, yes an actual company that specializes in incentive travel, conferences, meetings, leisure travel, destination management services, honeymoons and holidays. Talking about holidays, I need one. Dave have you got something that needs a blog post written about?

Last Outpost

Friends, Jackie and Dave, are retiring and are relocating to Westville near Durban. Natal used to be known as the Last Outpost but it should be changed to the Last Stop. Don't get me wrong, they are still young and have a long way to go, God willing. Well we wish them the best as they wind down at the last stop.

Back to the Men's Ministry

This morning I woke up to a beautiful summers morning and decided that it would be a good time to go to the men's group that meet at seven on Saturdays. Maybe it was meant to be as when I was returning, I saw this man walking that I recognised. It was a friend that had immigrated to Australia about two years ago. He had come back to sell the South African part of his business. We ended up at the side of the road in Bryanston chatting away. Well today's photo is of some of the men that meet regularly at BBC, they are Keith and Dave in the front and Gary and Leon at the back.

Day Eight

I am trying to keep busy to keep my mind off the things that have gone south. Why do I keep feeling that I am in a Kentucky shuffle? I had to pop into one of my clients after Metrorail this afternoon for some computer support. So here is Dave, my client and I am his computer support guy.

The Gift of Friends

It is good to have true friends who stand by you when the rest run away. Some of my very good friends meet every Saturday and it was good to start the day with them. From left to right are Dave, Frank, Ted and Keith.

Dave and Jackie

The rain has stopped and the sun tried to break through the clouds but to no avail. Along with no rain, there was no load shedding today. The reason I found out later was that three large mining concerns decided to shut down operations today because ESCOM could not guarantee continuous power supply. I popped to see Dave and Jackie in the afternoon to help Dave with some document formatting. He is looking into a UPS solution to help with the ongoing power cuts.
