Broken Start

 

I arrived at work nice and early only to find that I left my lunch at home. Not a good start to the week so I decided a nice cuppa rooibos tea with slices of freshly cut ginger would perk me right up. Opening the cupboard to get a cup out, the shelf collapsed and the glasses tumbled out onto the floor. 

Thankfully only 1 glass broke and soon I as relaxing at my desk about to dive into the week calm and collecting my thoughts.Today is my 4,600th post. Here is to the next 400, broken but not finished.

Fuyao Glassure Borderaux

It irks me as a consumer to make an appointment only to be left waiting by the supplier who must have been dawdling. We made arrangements with Glasfit Roodepoort who were assigned to replace the side window of Lynda's car that got smashed. They told us the glass will be arriving between 8 and 9am this morning. We arrived at Glassfit just before 9am and found that the glass was still on its way. They phoned the supplier, Fuyao Glassure Borderaux who told us that the driver is only 10mins away. 

More than an hour and a half past before the pickup from Fuyao Glassure Borderaus finally arrived. I don't enjoy being lied to and they did not manage the customer's expectations. Glassfit did a sterling job installing but the day was already ruined by then. 

Broken Glass

Last night at about 20 to 7, I was outside by my front gate with my tenant when I heard glass breaking coming from across the road. The house had just become empty with new people moving in this week. I walked across the street towards the house and got halfway when the alarm went off. THERE WERE PEOPLE BREAKING IN!

I did a prompt u-turn and left back to the safety of my home. I phoned my security, the neighbourhood watch, and the owners straight away. My security was on the scene in minutes, way before the neighbour’s security even arrived. All the neighbours were now on high alert.

This morning I went into the house with the owner to access the damage. Managed burglar bars and broken glass from where the burglars had smashed their way into an empty house. They must have been hoping that the new tenants would have moved in and this would be an easy score for them but they got nothing.

It is obvious that they are watching the houses from the veldt as this very house was broken into the night the owner moved in a few years back. The same happened to another neighbour a few houses down and on the night I moved in, our alarm was triggered. Since March when I cut the wattle trees down, attempts into my property and my neighbours dropped to nil. In the last month there have been 4 attempts so far including this one. THIS HAS TO STOP!

Outsurance Ripoff

I hardly use my pickup as I commute daily on my Vespa. Somewhere, somehow a stone must have chipped my windscreen and now with the cold weather I discovered a crack in the windscreen about 30cm long.

I pay nearly R1,400 to Outsurance every month to cover two vehicles and my Vespa for the last 5 years with not even 1 claim. Every year they have pushed my premiums higher even when the value of my vehicles and bike are dropping but it is up to me to chase them so that they can reassess the policy (place sad face here).

Now back to the windscreen, I phoned Outsurance and the lady who answered the phone after all the automated choices dutifully went everything with me and informed me that my access will be R1,120 plus that it will affect my no claim bonus. WHAT, I had to go back and look at the policy, and sure enough my accesses are very high and it is a black mark against my name but the worst is yet to come.

They didn’t give me any other choice so I had to pay the ridiculously high access and PG Glass in the form of Abiel (shown above) and Karel arrived this morning to change the windscreen. Afterwards I phoned PG Glass to inquire the price of the windscreen and to my horror I found out that the windscreen that was used for my pickup is on special for the last few months at only R990 fitted. WHAT!!! Now before Outsurance get their panties in a knot and say that was a special and cannot account for it, the normal price fitted is only R1,345. Yes you read correctly. Yes for all the money paid to Outsurance over the 5 years, they paid out a measly R225 and it has affected my no claim bonus.

Surely Outsurance should have my best interests at heart instead of trying to rip me off. Oh they have lost a once loyal client now.

Legend Man

Finally after many years, I have a new pair of glasses. For so long I haven’t been looking good and headaches have increased over the years. By headaches I mean like such pain behind the eyes that I had to stop myself gouging them out. So with these new specs based on a frame called Legend Man, I can good look again, like a legend.

Crystal Clear

Last night, our home group celebrated Thanksgiving a week early. Who cares if it was a little early, we have lots to be thankful for. Take me for example, my health. At the end of last year I had a double health scare, first with my prostate and second was kidney stones. Matthew, my son, started High School this year which was followed hotly on its heels by stress related problems for him. Thankfully it is all behind us and now we can move on.

I am still here, so my promise of a future is still before me, while the brokenness of my past behind.
