Welding the Loopholes

While clearing the firebreak, I found that the palisade fencing at the end of our road between the veldt and the street was broken in way it appeared to be okay but can be easily opened. This is a breach in the layers of security that protect us from the criminals. Yes I know it is not the best way of living but in Africa and I suppose elsewhere home security is paramount.

To help plug the loopholes, my neighbour Pieter, came along the veldt with his welding equipment to make repairs to the fence.

In the Fishbowl

Meetings upon meetings on how we are going to fit into the new business unit of PRASA ICT are being held in the Fishbowl. Here is the Back-End stream sitting the whole afternoon. Not a pleasant sight. Oh dear, it's our turn tomorrow.

Khumbu

I am not feeling well today because I am still recovering from too much sun on Sunday. During a get up and stretch your legs break I went up to RCC where I found Nkhumbudzeni (Khumbu) working hard and Pieter in an animated meeting.

I Hate Mondays

Today feels like Monday since yesterday was a public holiday. Bad news is that I hate Mondays but the good news is that it is going to be a short week. Here is Pieter giving me the look with Mutavha and Masilo in the background.

Uhmmm

"Uhmm, now let me see, what to do next?" That is the question. What is the way forward? Here is Pieter from Metrorail Pretoria pondering how to fix the magnetic lock with its stripped bolt on the server door.

Motivation

It looks like there is only one more step to go before getting a direct 12 month contract at Metrorail and that is the motivation why they need me. So far it is looking good. In the meanwhile here is Pieter and Leon slogging away trying to get the ticket system working on the reporting side.

Quandary

This morning was rather hectic. First I had to be at plasma TV hire place to check if my Kimberley-Clark presentation worked correctly on the large displays. Then it was off to get Sophia’s license sorted out but they wanted a road worthy test done so I had to get that done. I finally made it to Metrorail mid afternoon only to find out that the opening of the refurbished Doornfontein Station was postponed again this time to Thursday. BUT that is the day of the Kimberly-Clark launch. Two launches on the same day. I have to drop one. While I am in this dilemma I will leave you with a photograph of Pieter from the RCC section of our department.

A lover not a fighter

This long weekend has been good to me as I can recover from a hectic couple of weeks. I started teaching Maxy to ride on the Vespa with me. We end up at the dog park where Maxy does his usual sniff, greet and if it is a female try his luck. He has earned a reputation as the park rapist as he has had a go at every female dog in the park. I would not go so far as to call him that. I would say he is more of a gigolo, a lover not a fighter. I don’t want to mute him just yet as I want to see if we could get a litter or two from him. This weekend we met up with Damon and his family of four Italian Greyhounds. Here with Matthew, Damon and Lingani are Maxy, Pi, Pippa, Pearl and Puck.

Who monitors the monitors?

Here are Mario and Pieter from RCC monitoring the traffic from the ticketing system at Metrorail. I wonder who is going to get a sore neck first. There is a long weekend ahead so I am pushing toward it at full steam.

Train Operations

Yesterday the train operation was down to 76%. Not good when the target is 90%. The chilly weather must have played a part. Pieter from Regional Computer Centre (RCC) came down to our floor (Information Commutation Technologies (ICT)) to look at the online Train Delay Management System (TDMS). How is that for acronyms?
